Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Iyad bin Amin Madani, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Iyad bin Amin Madani, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the sidelines of the 70th session of UN General Assembly on September 29, 2015.
 
Secretary General highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s active role as an OIC member and commended the contributions of Azerbaijan  to the realization of Organization’s goals.
 
Secretary General mentioned that raising of Palestinian flag at the UN Headquarters on 30 September, 2015will be a milestone event for OIC members. He noted the importance of all OIC Member States presence at this ceremony. 
 
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the relations with the OIC and emphasized that the Organization creates favorable environment for further development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Member States.
 
He underlined the importance of the Coordination Meeting of the Foreign Ministers and other specialized meetings of the OIC on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session. .
 
Minister E.Mammadyarov touched upon the importance of solidarity within Islamic Ummah and said that the OIC is an essential mechanism for the discussion and finding solution of problems inherent to the Islamic world.
 
Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his high appreciation for the position of OIC on the condemnation of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan in strongest terms and the support for the settlement of the conflict on the basis of  territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan within its  internationally recognized borders.
 
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his concern over the growing trend of Islamophobia and stressed the importance of combating against these issues in joint efforts. Moreover, he noted that as a result of conflicts in the Middle East, a large number of Muslim population forced to flee their countries and emphasized the necessity of paying more attention to these problems.
 
At the end of the meeting the sides had exchange of views on priorities of the OIC and other issues of mutual concern.
